Edit:

Can you give us some names, mate? It would be very helpful for our community to know who to keep an eye on.

Thank you for your answers. I will write in English, so it is easier for me.
In first place I wrote the text to inform about the theft and to make people aware that there are bikes sold that got stolen. The bikes got stolen in Germany and there is a suspect. Then they were for sale on OLX.ro by two young guys. What I know is that they were not the guys that stole the bikes in first place. One of the guys wrote to me after he read this post. He tried to explain how he was envolved. He apologized to me and explained that he is a teenager who didn't think about where the bikes came from and why he tried to sell them. I believe that some of the parts are true but some are not true because they don't make sense to me.. However I am not an police offer and for me it is just not possible to find out the truth. He told me that Romania is a small country and that people might know who sold the bikes. I want him to get a second chance. Since I am a social worker who works with youth I know that people make wrong decisions and hope that he learned his lesson.
What I want to make people aware of: In my case it was a brand new Santa Cruz 5010 cc x01 worth around 8000€. For me it is very expensive and I saved a long time to buy this bike, but for me it is important because I am also a voluntary MTB-Guide and need a good bike. The bike got some scratches (I suppose during the theft) but still it would be worth much more than the 320ü€ it was sold on OLX. If you do some reserch on the internet you will never find such a bike for such a cheap price. Adding that they were sold without papers this should make you very suspicious! Especially when you know about bikes.

Tobias, you are well intended, but also naive. The issue here is that at least one of the people you are talking about, most likely the one who apologised to you has a little track record here. In the past he offered for sale various fantasy bikes, that he actually didn't have, and deceived people this way. He has also abused our messaging system in order to promote the classified ads site that he and his buddy made. Every time he apologised and promised he won't pull shit again, but we all know how that went. I talked to him recently and he doesn't seem to get it. He does apologise a lot and acts sort of remorseful, but his actions speak another language. I mean, after he has the above issues with the police he just went to a race and acted as if nothing had happened. I private he victimised himself and whined about how hard he is having it. I believe there is a lot of lying going on here and we should put an end to this. People like this are a disgrace to our local community and we don't need this kind of assholes, honestly. I am a bit tired of giving people who blew their second and third chances a fourth one and a fifth one and...

We have a saying in Romanian: ”cine fură azi un ou, mâine va fura un bou”, meaning ”he who steals today an egg will steal a bull tomorrow”.

This young man still has a chance to turn it around, but not if we are soft like this and pat him on the back and make him a little vitcim. He is not that. He is a liar, a deceiver and he definitely knew he was offering stolen goods for sale. He has sold other bikes that he technically couldn't afford before that, I remember makes and models. So let's stop the bullshit and protecting people who are obviously full of shit!

Wow! I am a fool! This guy told me that he broke his hand and that is the reason he tried to sell the bike. Now I see that he posted that he was at a bike race! What an asshole! He already has a new trek bike.

My bkek was stolen in Frankfurt, was tried to sell in Pitesti and was a Santa Cruz 5010 cc X01. Here is the police report.

This is what he wrote me:

tobias, with all the respect, you have to understand that we never knew that the bikes were stolen, we never tried to sell it after the police contacted and we never damaged the bikes. we took care of them like they were our dream bikes and they actually were. here in romania you find cases and cases of dumb people selling bikes for cheap without being stolen. actually 90% of the bikes don t have any paperwork in romania, so you are just a "trusting buyer", like we were.
i don t actually agree with you, the price on the rocky mountain was a fair one. most of the bikes i got are from swaping (for example i swapped the rocky mountain with a gt force because the rocky was too big for me). i m not buying stolen stuff, i never would. i never knew the santa cruz was stolen (not even the serial number was ripped off)

and trust me we (me and my friend) got the consequences we deserved, so no reason to worry about that.
friends, family, people we knew. and it's a big shitty thing to have this mark on your forhead even we didn't have any clue they were stolen and we didn't fight for them.

that's why i am trying to explain to you that we are not worth the emberesment we are put trough. we were caught in the middle between the one who stole the bikes and you. i am trying as well to find him, and i don t want to fight you. i don t have any reason. i know they are your bikes now, and i am glad you have them, that's why i wanted to apologise to you from the first day.

what i am asking is you to take down the post. we have a small country, everybody knows each other and they will definetelly know that it was us who posted the bikes for sale. we compete in races and we really don't want to be more emberessed than we already are. And i need to mention again, it is a kind request, with no obligation for you to accept our apologises and work together to catch the one who stole the bikes. thank you for your understanding and i am waiting to hear from you

Me:

So you are telling me you both bought your dream bikes for a good price to sell them again few weeks later? How can this sound like the truth?

He:

I broke my hand, so the doctor told me to get off the bike for 3 months (that meaning the end of the season), so i could use the money to buy ski stuff. The other friend thought it is going to be good for him being 1.75 but finded out to be too small for him, that s why

Me:

You know what, I will change the text so it doesn't refer to you. I will not take it down, because I still think it is good to let people know about the story and that you should think twice before buying a bike like this. I am just doing it because I already had so much trouble and costs, I just don't want to think about it anymore.
What makes me angry is that you either lie to me or the police. They said that youi told them you wanted to start a buiseness by buying bikes and selling them for more money. Thiis makes way more sense for me and this is what I believe. So you want a favour from me and still lie, wow.
You know, in life you make wrong decisions, but at least you should stand up for it and take the consequences. You just wrote me after you got problems because I posted the story, not because you wanted to apologize or wanted to do well.
For me there is nothing more to say. I already had to take days off from work, pay a lot of money and had a lot of hustle to get the bikes back. Now I am happy and don't want to think about it anymore.. You can tell the other people your side of the story and maybe they believe you.

He:

i was having 2 bikes at that moment, santa should have been the "staying bike" and swapping the other for some extra money.
i don't really get why you are not getting our apologises, that s the reason i have written to you, for the first time. we are not bastards, we don't want a stolen bike

Because I still think that it is not a honest apology. I still think you just do it because now you got trouble and not because you really want to apologize.

He:

i wouldn't have spent so much time writting all these paragraphs to you if i didn t mean them, trust me

Me:

You fucking dude! You ride another race with another bike?

WHy shouldn't I write your name on the internet?

The above back and forth is so full of bullshit, that I can't even...

Listen, I talked to the guy last week I believe. I am not giving up an inch when it comes to stuff like this, so he keeps trying the soft approach and I think he is pretty good with his bullshit talk. Every time I talked to him, it was either ”we are just kids trying to make it on our own” (referring to their crap site) or ”I believe people are too harsh on me” (regarding the above situation). I am the MC of most gravity events in Romania so I know people and I have seen him pop up my lists. He avoids contact specifically when we are in the same place, but he follows me on FB and Insta. This is also a bit telling, of course. After the last race, I asked him in a message if he realizes what he is doing and that he puts others in weird situation, namely the club he is in. I recommended him strongly to withdraw from the National Championships and that I suggest to at least be decent and not pop up in public anymore after this major fuck-up. He told me that he already paid for the hotel in Poiana Brașov and ”what should he do” and bla bla bla. I insisted: withdraw from the fucking race! Of course I found him on location come race time. The man has no shame, he always tries to soften you up with sentimental bullshit. It's his pattern. I am a bit sick of it. The cycling club he is in carries no guilt. There are only a handful of gravity oriented clubs in the country that are connected to the federation and can provide licenses, so most kids are registered with them, even if they don't necessarily know the people. It is almost a bulk load. To them it is: if you want to race, we will help you. I recommended the people at the club to be cautious with him, they are of good will and said that they believe him that he is innocent. Given the fact that they worked their butts of in the last month, it is understandable why they don't need extra distractions. But he IS an asshole for still pushing the envelope. And he WILL continue like this.

You don't have any reason to keep being Mr. Nice Guy with somebody who doesn't deserve that. It is your right to expose him in whatever medium you desire.

A bit of the bullshit he says, explained:

”we never knew that the bikes were stolen” - utter bullshit, Romania is a country with a huge black market and it is an issue since more than 10 years now. We have tried to fight it, wrote articles about ”Norwegian” bikes and even have a thread here about it where the thieves have openly threatened us. We have permanently deleted content that was questionable from our ads section and the users only returned more aggressively. I have received phone calls, being asked to take down content from the site. In the end, said people were arrested and did time in jail. Everybody and their fucking cat KNOWS that there are stolen bikes in Romania, I can even tell you cities and villages that are sweet spots for that.

”actually 90% of the bikes don t have any paperwork in romania” - something an entitled asshole would say, to justify his shit: there are lots of stolen bikes in the country. But there are a lot of decent people who bought their bikes legally in the shop. Of course there are bikes with no papers, but they mean nothing. It is not the same to own a 90's XC bike with Deore LX bought for 100 EUR with having last year's carbon bike with Kashima and XTR, when you don't even have other riding pants than than Adidas track suit. Either way, how does little douche know what bikes are stolen and what not?

”and trust me we (me and my friend) got the consequences we deserved, so no reason to worry about that.” - very few people know about this and maybe more should; the use of the word ”trust” in the context is super ironic

”we are not worth the emberesment we are put trough” - yes they are, as they didn't understand anything and still are assholes about it

”what i am asking is you to take down the post” - this little shit has some nerve, trying to cover up what he did, for this alone he deserves a foot up his ass!

”i don't really get why you are not getting our apologises, that s the reason i have written to you, for the first time. we are not bastards, we don't want a stolen bike” - this is classic him: lying, deceiving and even suggesting that it is your fault a bit, as you don't want to accept their ”apologies”.

”i wouldn't have spent so much time writting all these paragraphs to you if i didn t mean them, trust me” - translation: ”poor me, you basically owe me one, I am such a good guy and made one mistake and you are a bad man for not wanting to forgive me... sniff!”

You know what I would do?

- make a FB post about this, tag hime
- make in Insta post bout this, tag him
- make stories about this, tag him
- make a YouTube video with all the bullshit things he said to you
- make a Pinkbike forum thread, link to him
- make a Vital forum thread, link to him
- make a Bike Mag forum thread, link to him

This has gone just too far. This is like the dude whom you catch with stolen goods and says he will not do it again, but every time you meet him he has something stolen on him. ”I will change, please believe me!”.

If you need any support, feel free to write a private message to me and I will help you as much as I can.

Cheers,
Mx
